MISTY COLLECTION AT THE USAF ACADEMY
Call for Papers and Related Material
A number of Mistys have expressed the need to permanently preserve in one location, materials relating to Misty history before they become scattered or lost with the passage of time. In this regard, The William F. McDermott Library at the Air Force Academy has agreed to establish a permanent collection of papers and other research materials related to the Misty FACs. The Misty collection will be maintained under the care of professional archivists in the library’s Clark Special Collection Branch.
The Clark Special Collection is a working archive, and among the collections are the Official Academy Archives, the Southeast Asia POW Collection, and material relating to Lance Sijan, Academy graduate and Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient whose story is linked to Misty.
The Misty collection will be available for use by cadets as well as military and civilian researchers, and will permanently preserve the irreplaceable material that constitutes the Misty “story”. The repository will keep the Misty legacy alive among cadets, faculty, visiting scholars, and writers of airpower history and the Vietnam conflict. In a sense, the repository is a natural follow-on to the highly successful Misty Forum presented to the Academy cadets in 2003.
Accordingly, this is to invite all members of the Misty family and friends to forward originals or copies of the relevant materials that should be preserved for the historical record. The Academy archivists are especially interested in the following: published books and articles, unpublished manuscripts/stories, personal memoirs, diaries, letters, flight logs, maps, CD ROMs, useable film on VHS or DVD, audio tapes, analyses of tactics/operations, commemorative programs, photos, newspaper accounts, etc. Please forward the materials you wish to contribute to:
